New Govt in Manipur: Around 15 to 20 MLAs met at the residence of former CM N Biren Singh late afternoon yesterday to discuss the road ahead.
Hectic politicking is underway in Manipur in order to facilitate the formation of a popular government in the state, which has been under President’s Rule since February.
Sources told Northeast Live that around 15 to 20 MLAs met at the residence of former Chief Minister N Biren Singh late afternoon yesterday to discuss the road ahead. Sources added that there was a joint meeting later at around 7 pm between MLAs from the N Biren Singh camp and the camp seeking reinstatement of the government with a new leader.
Sources said that the Biren camp was represented by MLAs Govindas Konthoujam, K Ibomcha, Sapam Kunjakeshwor alias Keba, and Karam Shyam, while Y Khemchand, Y Radheshyam, Kh Joykishen, and S Rajen attended the meeting from the camp of 13 MLAs who have been opposing Biren as CM.
According to sources, there will be a meeting of all BJP MLAs on Monday, at Karam Shyam’s residence, to send out a message of unity to the high command that they will accept the leader chosen by the party top brass as the CM.
However, there are speculations doing the rounds that the 4 MLAs from the Biren Camp who had attended the 7 pm meeting yesterday may be considering a shift in allegiance. There is, however, no confirmation of this.
Sources, meanwhile, added that former CM N Biren Singh is also ready to accept the BJP high command’s decision on the CM face. Push for formation of a popular government has picked pace post the visit of the BJP NE coordinator Sambit Patra to the state earlier this month. There are reports that Kuki ZO MLAs from the state are also set to meet in Guwahati tomorrow on the issue.
Meanwhile, 4 NPF MLAs from Manipur are said to be camping in Guwahati for a meeting with NEDA convenor and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma later today.
