Ema gi Meira Demands MLAs Resignation: Women’s organization demands resignation of all MLAs for being unable to form a government.
The demand for the formation of a popular government in Manipur is gaining traction, with prominent women’s organization Ema gi Meira demanding resignation of all MLAs for being unable to form a government. Ema gi Meira has demanded re-election to restore democratic order.
A delegation led by Ema gi Meira Convenor Th. Sujata attempted to meet the Secretary and Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly on Monday but was denied an appointment.
Earlier, the group had submitted an inquiry to the Assembly Secretary regarding funding issues, but the lack of response triggered a protest march towards the Assembly.
Speaking to Northeast Live, Sujata questioned why, despite having a clear majority, the MLAs have failed to form a popular government. “If they can’t form a government, then they should resign. We want re-election,” she said, adding, “MLAs and ministers must fulfill their roles and not act like CSO members.”
The protest reflects rising public frustration over the prolonged political instability in the state.
