First Published: 8th July, 2024 20:39 IST

The victim was identified as Naresh Basumatary, a Ranger of the Social Forestry Department

Within days of the daring daylight robbery when two bike-borne men had snatched a bag containing Rs 34 lakh, another similar incident has been reported from Kokrajhar today.

This time a ranger of the social forestry department was robbed in broad daylight of Rs 2.25 lakh that he had just withdrawn from the UCO Bank in Kokrajhar. The earlier incident that took place on June 25 was outside the Axis Bank branch in Kokrajhar.

The victim identified as Naresh Basumatary, had withdrawn the money from the bank and was about to seat in his car parked outside the bank. Just then he noticed that there were some currency notes lying on the road. He kept the bag with the withdrawn cash in the seat of his car and bent down to pick the money lying on the road. By the time he turned back to his car, the bag with the withdrawn cash worth Rs 2.25 lakh was gone.

Four people are said to be behind the robbery. It is them who had thrown the currency notes on the road to distract forest ranger Basumatary.

An investigation is underway.
