For Us, East Means Empower, Act, Strengthen and Transform: PM Modi at Rising Northeast Investors’ Summit

PM Modi called the region as a cornerstone of India's growth story, referring to the region as “Ashta Lakshmi”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today explained the various strengths of Northeast India at the Rising Northeast Investors Summit in New Delhi and said the word ‘East’ in Northeast East does not mean only one direction but also represents Empower, Act, Strengthen, and Transform.
He said, “For the building of a developed India, the development of Eastern India is very important, and the North-East is the most crucial part of Eastern India. For us, the east is not just a direction. For us, east means Empower, Act, Strengthen and Transform.”
“There was a time when Northeast was only called frontier, now it is frontrunner of growth,” he added.
The Prime Minister lauded Northeast’s cultural richness, natural beauty, and economic potential and called the region as a cornerstone of India’s growth story, referring to the region as “Ashta Lakshmi” a symbol of 8 forms of wealth and prosperity.
He said, “India is the world’s most diverse nation, and the Northeast is the most diverse part of our diverse nation. From trade to tradition, from textile to tourism, the diversity of the Northeast is its strength. Northeast means bio-economy, bamboo, tea production, petroleum, sports, skill, an emerging hub of eco-tourism, and a new world for organic products. The Northeast is the powerhouse of energy. Northeast is ‘Ashta Lakshmi’ for us.”
He said, “With the blessings of Ashtalakshmi, every state in the North-East is saying: We are ready for investment, we are ready for leadership.'”
The Prime Minister said that the region is witnessing unprecedented progress. We are determined to accelerate its growth story.
The summit will include ministerial sessions, business-to-government sessions, business-to-business meetings, start ups and exhibitions of policy and related initiatives taken by state governments and central ministries for investment promotion, officials said.
The main focus sectors of investment promotion include tourism and hospitality, Agro-food processing and allied sectors, textiles, handloom and handicrafts, healthcare, education and skill development, information technology and information technology-enabled services, infrastructure and logistics, energy, entertainment and sports.
