Fishery Becomes Flashpoint in Assam-Meghalaya Border Dispute
A fishery pond, critical to the livelihood of Maikhuli residents along the Assam-Meghalaya border, has become the latest point of contention in the ongoing border dispute between the two Northeast states. Residents of Maikhuli village today gathered in large numbers to protest against the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two State Governments, concerning the inter-state border resolution. Their protest centers around the inclusion of a Fishery Pond, which has long benefited the people of Maikhuli, within the territory of Assam under the agreement.
