Imphal: First ever Olympian Park dedicated to general public

Statues of all 19 Olympians have been installed in the park
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday handed over the first-ever Olympian Park to the general public.
India’s first Olympian Park constructed at Sangaithel, a picturesque hillock on the outskirts of Imphal West was earlier inaugurated by Union Home minister Amit Shah in 6th of this month during his visit to the state.
State’s first Olympian P Nilakamal led the state Olympian squad during a honouring event held during the handing-over function.
Since 1984 Los Angeles Olympics onwards, powerhouse of sports, Manipur has so far produced 19 Olympians.
Statues of all 19 Olympians including 7 from Hockey, 4 each from Boxing and Weightlifting, and 3 from Judo and also 1 from Archery have been installed who would represent the state in the Olympics in the future.
The Olympians are– Hocky players–Pangabam Nilakomal Singh, Kshetrimayum Thoiba Singh, Khadangbam Kothajit Singh,Thokchom Anuradha Devi,Kangujam Chinglensana Singh,Pukhrambam Sushila Chanu,anglakpam Nilakanta Sharma.
Boxers– Mangte Chungneijang Marry Kom, Soubam Suresh Singh, Ngangom Dingku Singh,Laishram Devendro Singh.
Judokas– Lourembam Brojeshori Devi, Khumujam Tombi Devi,Likmabam Sushila Devi.
Weightlifter —Thingbaijam Sanamacha Chanu,Nameirakpam Kunjarani Devi, Ngangbam Soniya Chanu, Saikhom Mirabai Chanu.
Archer Laishram Bombayla Devi.
The park was constructed by Keystone Infra Pvt Ltd under Manipur Police Housing Corporation Ltd.
Along with the CM, state Youth Affairs and Sports minister Govindas Konthoujam and President Manipur Olympic Association MLA Th Radheshyam attended the handing over function at Sangaithel Olympian Park some 25 km North West of state capital Imphal.
The government is also planning to set up an Excellent Training Center to provide training facilities in Weightlifting, Boxing and Judo.
