Farmers Latest Target of Cyber Crime In NE, Fraudsters Use PM-KISAN Scheme As Bait

The police therefore have urged the farmers in Tripura to follow the official website of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.

At a time when Assam is in the headlines following several incidents of cyber crime resulting in people getting duped of crores of rupees, the cyber crime cell of the Tripura Police has issued an alert to all the farmers in the state.

According to the alert issued by the police, fraudsters are spreading fake messages on social media targeting farmers in the name of the PM-KISAN scheme. Preliminary investigation by the police indicates that the messages are being spread with the intention of forgery, wherein a design has been created to extract personal details of the beneficiaries, such as bank account details and other associated information vital for financial transactions.

The police therefore have urged the farmers in Tripura to follow the official website of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.

The farmers have also been urged not to upload any vital information by clicking any unauthenticated links.

Tripura DGP Amitav Ranjan had informed that soon the state will have cyber police stations to handle cyber crime cases.

It needs to be mentioned that, the Assam Police has also finalized plans to set up a Regional Cyber Crime Coordination Centre in the state. The decision comes after a large number of people fell prey to cybercrimes and online trading scams and lost crores of rupees. Funded by the Government of India, the centre is expected to become operational soon.
