Experts from France in Dibrugarh to Find Solutions to Perennial Flooding Problem, Improve Urban Living Experience

A team of experts from the French Embassy are in Dibrugarh to find solutions to the city’s long-standing urban flooding and waterlogging problems.
Their visit focuses on finding sustainable flood management strategies and potential areas of collaboration with local authorities.
In the first meeting held today, Dibrugarh district officials gave an overview of the city’s existing flood mitigation efforts.
Officials from the Water Resources Department, Town and Country Planning, and PWD Roads, attended the meeting.
The French delegation expressed interest in working for long-term urban planning solutions and improving flood preparedness.
On Friday, the delegation will conduct site inspections across flood-prone areas to examine the existing drainage system and flood management infrastructure. They will also engage with local communities to understand how waterlogging impacts daily life. Additionally, they will visit a tea plantation site as part of their assessment. In the afternoon, they will tour the DTP Dyke and the Brahmaputra Riverfront, exploring opportunities for urban development while incorporating flood mitigation strategies. Discussions will focus on creating public spaces such as promenades, cycling tracks, and floating decks, as well as strengthening the dyke’s protective function and introducing eco-tourism initiatives along the waterfront.
The visit will conclude on Saturday with a final briefing led by Atelier LD, where the delegation will present their key findings and discuss future action plans with local officials.
