ENPO to observe ‘Black Day’ to commemorate Oting killings

The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) will observe ‘Black day’ tomorrow in remembrance of the 14 lives that were lost in a botched operation by security forces in a case of “mistaken identity” on this day (December 4) in 2021 at Oting village of Mon district of Nagaland. One security personnel was also killed in the violence.
According to the directive from ENPO, Konyak Union Executive Council held a meeting in Mon district this evening and resolved to continue with the observation of ‘Black day’.
“We will observe Black day in the entire ENPO area tomorrow flying 14 black flags and holding prayer meeting in respective headquarters,” said Konyak Union Vice President H.A. Hongnao Konyak.
The organisation has also urged all Konyak civil societies and the public to gather at Konyak Union office, Mon at 10 AM tomorrow to mark two years of the Oting firing by security forces that left 14 people dead.
Earlier, addressing in the Lok Sabha on the firing incident, Union Home Minister Amit Shah gave the details of what transpired in Mon in the afternoon of December 4.
The Union Home Minister said that security forces had made attempts to stop the vehicle in which the villagers were coming, however when the vehicle allegedly sped away, the forces resorted to firing which lead to the death of 6 out of the 8 civilians onboard the pickup truck. Later things turned violent when locals reached the spot forcing the security forces to fire in self defence leading to 7 more casualties.
