DU Ragging Shocker: 4 Accused Students Suspended, Victim Anand continues to be in ICU

The 4 senior students have been suspended till the magisterial enquiry is over. They have also been prohibited from entering the University premises

Dibrugarh University has suspended four senior students accused of ragging a junior student of the University. The state-run University in an order issued today (Nov 29, 2022) has said that the students have been “suspended from attending classes and academic privileges with immediate effect until completion of the magisterial level and institutional enquiry, in full”.

They have also been prohibited from entering the University premises

The suspended students are – Dibyajyoti Gogoi, 3rd semester student of Department of Applied Geology, Subhrajit Baruah, 3rd semester Pol Science student, Niranjon Thakur, 3rd semester, Centre for Studies in Physical Education and Sports and Kalyan Dutta, 3rd semester Department of History student of Dibrugarh University.

The four have been accused of brutally ragging Anand Sharma, a M. Com 1st semester student of the Commerce Department. Anand had jumped off the second floor of the PNGB hostel to escape the torture. He is admitted in ICU.

The suspension order comes a day after the incident was reported.
