Doctor in Assam’s Sribhumi Accused of Selling Newborn for Money

In a shocking case of human trafficking, Niladri Shekhar Das, a doctor at Sribhumi District Civil Hospital, has been accused of illegally handing over a newborn to a couple in exchange for money.
According to reports, a woman had initially approached the doctor seeking an abortion. However, the doctor reportedly convinced her to continue with the pregnancy. After the woman gave birth to a baby girl at a private healthcare facility, the doctor allegedly facilitated the handover of the newborn to another couple in exchange for money.
The District Child Protection Committee (DCPC) received a tip-off about the incident and immediately took action. Officials swiftly rescued the newborn, who is now under the care of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
Following the incident, the district administration has registered a case against Niladri Shekhar Das. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the matter to uncover further details and identify any other individuals involved.
