The sacred Rath Yatra festival will be celebrated with unprecedented grandeur and devotion at the Sri Sri Jagannath Temple in Khanikar, Dibrugarh, on June 27 from 1:00 PM onwards. This year’s celebration will mark a spiritual milestone for Assam, as it will feature separate chariots for Lord Jagannath, Goddess Subhadra, and Lord Balram, a first for the state and only the second instance outside Puri.

Announcing the details at a press conference held at the temple premises on Saturday, Ram Sasoni, President of the Rath Yatra Organising Committee, said, “This is a spiritually significant milestone for Dibrugarh and Assam. The separate chariots reflect our deep reverence and commitment to recreating the authentic Puri-style Yatra experience.”

“We will serve Khichdi Prasad in a clean and hygienic environment. We have also set up multiple cooling stations offering drinking water and lemon water across the venue to help devotees stay refreshed,” Secretary Nalin Khemani said.

The temple campus and its surrounding areas will be beautifully decorated with vibrant pandals, shaded shamianas, and carpeted walkways. Organisers will also provide mobile toilets and proper sanitation facilities to ensure cleanliness and convenience.

To maintain discipline and assist devotees, the committee will deploy an adequate number of volunteers supported by security personnel. To counter the summer heat, organisers will sprinkle water along the Yatra route. A medical booth with ambulance support will remain stationed on-site to handle any emergencies.

Mayor of Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation, Dr Saikat Patra, praised the organising committee’s efforts and urged the public to take part in the event. “We invite everyone to join this sacred occasion and make it a spiritually uplifting experience for all,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, Pranjal Sharma added, “We expect thousands of devotees from across Upper Assam and beyond. Let us come together and make this Rath Yatra a truly memorable celebration.”
