The death toll due to the floods in Assam has mounted to 76, with one more death being reported from Mankachar district.

After living for 12 days without food, one person named Sirajal Bepari died on Thursday, at a relief camp. The South Salmara district administration has allegedly failed to deliver adequate supply of food materials in the relief camps for the past 13 days.

Meanwhile, fear and apprehensions prevail in Lower Assam after the authorities had issued alert following a notification issued by the Bhutanese authorities on the release of waters from the Kurichhu hydropower plant in Bhutan.

In Barpeta, the administration has sounded a red alert for people residing on the banks of the Beki and Pahumara rivers appealing them to move to higher and safer locations.
