Dr. A Chellakumar, the AICC in-charge for Meghalaya, has extended an open invitation to former Congress members to rejoin the party.
Dr. A Chellakumar, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge for Meghalaya, has extended an open invitation to former Congress members to rejoin the party, emphasising that unity is crucial for the betterment of Meghalaya and the nation.
While reiterating the party’s willingness to welcome returning members, he clarified that Congress is not actively pursuing individuals but remains open to those interested in reuniting with the party.
Expressing confidence in the party’s revival, Dr. Chellakumar highlighted that many individuals have shown a keen interest in joining Congress, with significant numbers reportedly preparing to align with the party. He affirmed that the Congress is dedicated to regaining its strength in Meghalaya and is optimistic about its performance in the upcoming district council elections.
On the alliance with the National People’s Party (NPP) in the district council, Dr. Chellakumar explained that the collaboration aims to strengthen the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, which safeguards the rights of tribal communities. However, he criticised the NPP for its alliance with the BJP at the national level. He pointed out their failure to secure the inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution despite their partnership in the central government.
