COCOMI Delegation to Leave for Delhi Tomorrow for Talks with MHA on May 27

The Home Ministry has initiated the meeting as part of its ongoing efforts to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur.
A seven-member COCOMI team led by Convenor Athouba Khuraijam will leave for Delhi on May 26 for a high-level meeting with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), scheduled for May 27. The Home Ministry has initiated the meeting as part of its ongoing efforts to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur.
Speaking at a press conference in Imphal today, Athouba Khuraijam said the delegation will discuss key follow-up actions on the resolutions adopted during the Manipur People’s Convention held on May 3 at Khuman Lampak. He said COCOMI will push for concrete political and security steps to address the long-running crisis in the state.
COCOMI has expanded the meeting agenda in light of the recent Gwaltabi incident, which triggered widespread unrest. Athouba blamed the ongoing tension on the continued silence and inaction of the state government under President’s Rule.
He strongly condemned security forces for using mock bombs and tear gas on peaceful demonstrators earlier today. “The police injured several women protestors, including mothers and elderly citizens, by using excessive force. This kind of aggressive crowd control has no place in a democracy,” he said.
Athouba further said that the delegation will urge the MHA for a public apology from the Governor for what they see as an insult to the people of Manipur. They will also seek the resignation or immediate transfer of the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, and Security Advisor, holding them responsible for worsening the situation through poor decision-making and will also urge the MHA to ensure that peaceful protestors are not subjected to violence and that security forces follow democratic principles in handling civil unrest.
Athouba urged the Women’s Front and Student Front of COCOMI to continue the public agitation. He said COCOMI would firmly represent the voice of the people, demand justice, and hold those responsible for the crisis accountable.
