The emergency meeting comes in the wake of the shocking recovery of the six bodies of children and women found inside gunny bags.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh has summoned all ministers and MLAs, including those currently outside the state, to urgently return to Imphal for a high-level meeting to address the volatile situation in Manipur. The emergency meeting comes in the wake of the shocking recovery of the six bodies of children and women found inside gunny bags after they were abducted from Jiribam by armed miscreants.
The discovery has sparked widespread outrage across the state. Protestors, including large numbers of women, poured into the streets of Imphal, burning tyres and blocking roads in defiance of the escalating violence. The iconic Ima Market became a focal point of protests, with the Imas (mothers in Manipuri) holding impromptu meetings to demand justice and peace.
CM Biren Singh confirmed that all ministers and MLAs have been directed to arrive in Imphal by this evening. “We will hold discussions to address the current situation in Manipur,” the Chief Minister said.
The state government had also convened an emergency cabinet meeting yesterday late night to deliberate on measures to curb the violence. The cabinet has recommended that organizations implicated in the abduction and killing of innocent civilians, including children and women, be officially designated as unlawful organisations.
