The Gaan-Ngai festival once again brought people together to celebrate the cultural richness and unity of the Zeliangrong community.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh graced the state-level Gaan-Ngai celebration, the major festival of the Zeliangrong community, on January 12 at Sagolband Ramji Kabui village in Imphal. The event was hosted by MLA Janghemlung Panmei and Dinganglung Gangmei, Chairman of the Hill Area Committee (HAC).
The festival showcased a vibrant array of traditions, including the sacred “Ho-hoing” prayer, communal feasts, cultural songs, dances, traditional games, and the lighting of the “Holy Fire” for community purification and prosperity. In his address, CM Biren congratulated the organising committee for the successful event.
Speaking to the reporters, CM Biren reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the state’s development. “Our focus is on progress and building a better Manipur. We don’t have time to engage in arguments from parties that criticise the government,” he said. He also mentioned laying foundation stones for multiple projects in Maram the day before, underscoring his administration’s focus on infrastructural development.
Responding to allegations by the Congress party that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Manipur government is financially supporting militant groups under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement during ongoing ethnic violence, CM Biren dismissed the claims. “Certain matters require confidentiality and cannot be discussed openly. Clarifications will come through the appropriate platforms and relevant authorities,” he stated.
The Gaan-Ngai festival once again brought people together to celebrate the cultural richness and unity of the Zeliangrong community, underscoring its significance in promoting harmony and prosperity.
