Clashes Erupt in Manipur’s Imphal East, 4 Vehicles Vandalised, One Burnt

Tension erupted in Manipur’s Imphal East district after a major scuffle broke out between two groups of people in which at least 4 vehicles have been vandalised and one burnt down.

The clash broke out between the two groups of people at Telipati in Imphal East last night.

As per sources, the scuffle started over a religious site at Telipati.

Following the altercation, a mob set fire to a two-wheeler and vandalised at least four four-wheelers.

According to sources, an Imphal East District Police team on duty in the vicinity tried to control the but was unsuccessful. Porompat PS OC reached the spot and brought things under control.

Situation continued to be tense as people of one of the clashing groups continued to block roads and set things on fire.

Police resorted to heavy shelling of tear gas to disperse the groups.

Additional teams of Imphal East police arrived at the scene.

The police then spoke with the leaders of both the groups and the situation was brought under control.
