Manipur: Funeral for 9-Year-Old Girl: Minor's body was discovered on Thursday night at around 11:30 pm in a water tank near the relief camp.

The body of a nine-year-old Internally Displaced Person (IDP) girl, suspected to have been raped and murdered near a relief camp, was laid to rest today at the Zomi Youth Association cemetery.

A funeral programme was held at Lanva TD Block Relief Camp before the burial, where friends, classmates, and well-wishers gathered to bid their final farewell. Students sang farewell songs and draped the child’s body in traditional shawls as a mark of respect. Floral tributes were also offered before she was laid to rest.

Churachandpur MLA LM Khaute, civil society organization (CSO) leaders attended the funeral service. Addressing the mourners, Khaute strongly condemned the horrific incident and demanded strict punishment for those responsible.

Zomi Mothers Association (ZMA) spokesperson Lynda Kim echoed similar sentiments, urging law enforcement agencies to ensure justice is served swiftly. “We do not want such incidents to happen to anyone else. We demand strict measures and immediate punishment for the culprits,” she stated.

The minor’s body was discovered on Thursday night at around 11:30 pm in a water tank near the relief camp in Lingsiphai, Lanva TD Block. She was a Class II student taking shelter in the camp after being displaced.

The incident has sparked outrage and grief, with the community demanding justice and enhanced security for vulnerable IDPs.
