Children’s Day in Manipur Turns Into Protest Day as Students Demand Release of Abducted Civilians Including Minors

In addition, they are urging the BJP-led government to take swift and decisive action to secure the release of the civilians.

In a stark departure from the traditional celebrations of Children’s Day, students throughout Manipur took to the streets in protest, calling for the safe release of six civilians including women and children who were abducted by armed miscreants in Jiribam on November 11.

The abductions have sparked widespread outrage, leading students from schools, higher secondary institutions, colleges, and universities to join protests, including sit-ins, human chains, and short rallies across the state. The students are calling on those responsible to immediately release the abducted women and children and return them safely to their families.

In addition, they are urging the BJP-led government to take swift and decisive action to secure the release of the civilians and to restore peace and stability in Manipur. The protests have cast a somber shadow over Children’s Day celebrations in the state, with young people shifting their focus from celebrations to pressing for protection and justice for vulnerable civilians.

Yesterday, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (CoCOMI) Students’ Front released a statement urging all schools and educational institutions to observe the protests against the abduction of minors in Jiribam. The committee also called on the students to wear black badges as a mark of solidarity and to participate in human chains against the ongoing crisis.
