Centre working silently on trying to resolve the 16 month long ethnic riots in Manipur?
Is the Centre working silently on trying to resolve the 16 month long ethnic riots in Manipur? Sources have said that central agencies are working overtime to try and end the violence through the medium of dialogue between communities.
The issue may be different, but the Centre’s decision to invite the United Naga Council (UNC), the apex Naga tribal body in Manipur, to discuss the issue of rollback of the 7 new districts could just be the beginning.
Sources said that there is a possibility now of the Centre initiating talks with the Kuki and Meitei communities in New Delhi.
There is a lull in Manipur during the past few weeks and observers feel this is the time for the Centre to walk the extra mile and hold dialogue with the two clashing communities.
Sources said now that the elections in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir are over, New Delhi will focus on Manipur and start the dialogue process with the Kukis and the Meiteis.
