Centre has sanctioned Rs 382.10 crore for the construction of a 2-lane highway connecting Majuli and Jorhat in Assam and Rs 1742.11 crore for the construction of 4-lane section on

Minister of Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday approved an outlay of Rs 2,124 crore for the construction of new highways and flyover in Assam and Mizoram.

The government has sanctioned Rs 1742.11 crore for the construction of the 4-lane N Kawnpui (N Mualvum) – Sairang section on NH-6, situated along the Silchar –Valrengte – Sairang road in the Aizawl and Kolasib districts in Mizoram.

This 24.41 km project will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode as part of National Highways (Original) – North East (NH(0)-NE).

The road aims to facilitate uninterrupted traffic flow, circumventing interference from local traffic in developed areas.

The strategic project also aims to sidestep heavily populated areas, diminish congestion, and heighten road safety within the city of Aizawl. Additionally, it aspires to curtail the length of the existing National Highway by 25 kilometers, from Vairengte to Sairang, said Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

In Assam, the government has sanctioned Rs 382.10 crore for construction of a new 2-lane highway with paved shoulders connecting Majuli and Jorhat in Assam.

In addition, the project includes a flyover on NH-715 that is 20.479 kilometers long, in addition to its approaches and service roads.

The purpose of this project is to establish direct road connectivity between Jorhat and Majuli, addressing the absence of such a link currently.

Presently, people rely on river ferries across the Brahmaputra during daylight hours, posing safety concerns, especially during periods of high flooding.

Furthermore, the construction of the Majuli bridge and approach roads will guarantee ongoing connectivity, greatly enhancing the socioeconomic standing of the local populace and promoting tourism.
