CBI Director Praveen Sood arrives in Guwahati to probe Manipur violence cases

The CBI is probing as many as 6 cases related to violence in Manipur. While five of the cases are related to alleged criminal conspiracy, one pertains to general conspiracy

CBI Director Praveen Sood is in Guwahati in connection with the probe in cases relating to Manipur violence.

As per reports, the CBI chief is likely to review the progress made by the SITs under DIG rank officers to investigate cases of violence in Manipur referred to it by the state government.

Sources told Northeast Live, that the CBI director will fly to Imphal later in the afternoon.

The CBI is probing as many as 6 cases related to violence in Manipur. While five of the cases are related to alleged criminal conspiracy, one pertains to general conspiracy behind the violence.

The Centre had also asked the CBI to take over probe for the May 4th sexual violence incident in Thoubal where at least 3 women were stripped and paraded.

Earlier, on September 27, a special CBI team headed by Sood landed in Manipur to speed up the investigation into the alleged murder of two students. The team investigated the murder case of Hijam Luwangbi Linthoinganbi and Philem Hemanjit.

The move has been taken up under instructions from Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
