Case of illegal transportation of arms to Manipur not handed over to NIA: Nagaland Dy CM Y. Patton

Amid the speculations that the National Investigative Agency (NIA) had taken over the investigation into the involvement of a Nagaland police officer and five other persons in the illegal transportation of ammunition to strife-torn Manipur, the Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y.Patton today clarified that the case has not been handed over to NIA and that the State Police is investigating the matter.
It may be mentioned here that six persons, including a Nagaland Police inspector, an armed group leader and four other civilians, including a woman, have been arrested for allegedly stealing ammunition from the Nagaland Police armoury.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that the state police is investigating the case and will be submitting its report soon.
He also clarified that the State government has recovered the arms and ammunition and that those arms and ammunition were not transported to Manipur.
Patton also said that he has given direction to the officer in charge of the Nagaland Police Armoury to tighten the security. Orders have also been given to set up CCTV cameras in the armoury.
Concerning the case, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio recently affirmed that the law would take its course against the erring police officer and five other accused involved in the incident.
On July 10 evening, Nagaland Police intercepted a car in 6th mile in Chumukedima and recovered 2,480 rounds of ammunition concealed in rice bags from the vehicle.
Nagaland DGP Rupin Sharma said that some people from Manipur had paid money to purchase the ammunition.
