Cachar Police Bust Illegal Beef Trade: 24.5 Kg Seized, 8 Arrested in Multi-Location Raids

In a major crackdown on the illegal beef trade, Cachar Police on Tuesday seized approximately 24.5 kg of beef and arrested eight individuals during a series of coordinated surprise raids across the district.

The operation, led by Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta, followed specific intelligence inputs and targeted hotels and establishments that were found storing or selling beef, both cooked and raw, without legal permission.

Under Borkhola Police Station, officers raided Modina Hotel in Barjatrapur and seized 10 kg of uncooked meat. They arrested Monir Uddin Barbhuiya, from Peladahar under Silchar PS, and Ajmal Hussain Barbhuiya, from Barjatrapur. At Taj Hotel in Khorochura under Kalain Police Station, police seized 1 kg of cooked beef and arrested Johorul Alom, son of Moinuddin from Jagadishpur under Katigorah PS.

In Udharbond, police raided Jonota Hotel at Manikpur Rajnagar and seized 5 kg of both cooked and raw meat. Jabar Hussain Laskar, was taken into custody. At an unnamed hotel under Silchar Police Station, police found 1 kg of raw meat and arrested Md. Abdul Basit, from Katigorah Part-3.

Further raids under Dholai Police Station led to the seizure of 500 grams of beef, cooked and raw, from Aryan Hotel and Akib Frozen Meat Shop. Police arrested Anwar Hussain Laskar, from Islamabad, and Salam Ahmed Barbhuiya, owner of Akib Frozen Meat Point from Shyamacharanpur. In Lakhipur, police raided Hotel Faruq at Banskandi and seized 7 kg of meat. They arrested Faruk Ahmed, 40, a resident of Bashkandi Part II.

Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta said Cachar Police is committed to strictly enforcing the law and maintaining communal harmony in the district. He urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement and to report any illegal activities involving banned or regulated items. He further added that legal actions have been initiated against all those involved and that investigations are ongoing to trace the supply chain and other possible connections.
