More and more rebel groups in Assam are coming back to the mainstream. Two militant outfits from Assam’s Barak Valley–Bru Liberation Army Union (BLAU) and the United Democratic Liberation Army (UDLA) are now set to bid ‘farewell to arms’ and return to the mainstream.

Both the militants’ outfits are soon set to surrender their weapons and return to the mainstream in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

A total of 398 militants from both the militant outfits will be laying down their weapons and formally surrendering in a ceremony by the month of February.

It may be mentioned that earlier on January 27, two Assam-based rebel groups–the Tiwa Liberation Army (TLA) and the United Gorkha Peoples Organisation (UGPO) have joined the mainstream.

Leaders of both rebel groups laid down their arms in presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at the Sankardev Kalakhetra, Guwahati.

While speaking on the sidelines of laying down of arms by the TLA and UGPO, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said that the era of tribal insurgency in the state has come to an end and that there are no tribal groups active as they are now in talks with the government.

Chief Minister Sarma had also appealed to the United Liberation Front of Assam or ULFA-Independent (ULFA-I) to come and join the talks table for a solution.

Additionally, the Assam Chief Minister also urged the Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) to reciprocate the peace push of the state government.
