Former Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister and President of the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) Nabam Tuki today said that BJP’s ‘ruling phobia’ stemming from fear and intimidation by the party, had a profound impact on both the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, the veteran politician shared instances of bogus voting in various polling booths, which he claimed skewed the results unfavourably for Congress.

It may be mentioned here that Congress has won only one seat of the total 60 Assembly seats in the State Assembly Elections and failed to win any of the Lok Sabha seats in the 18th Lok Sabha Elections.

Former Minister Kumar Waii is the lone Congress victor among those in the poll contest. He won the Bameng seat of East Kameng district.

Speaking about the poor performance of the party both in Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, Tuki said, “While we could only make promises to the people since we do not have enough money, the ruling BJP did use money and other resources to influence voters. People were so convinced and cast their votes in favour of the BJP, which is nothing new. Since the BJP government came to power in the state, this has been the general pattern.”

“We prepared to contest all 60 Assembly seats in the recently concluded State Assembly Elections Assembly, but could only file 19 candidates due to various challenges. We gave our best but were unsuccessful,” he added.

The APCC president however said that regardless of winning or losing, the party will continue to serve the people of the state.

“Congress is a grand old party, people have faith in us. Even with just one MLA, the party’s work will continue. Everything starts from zero,” he said, assuring that the single MLA will actively represent and work for the party’s cause.

Tuki is set to attend the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Delhi tomorrow to discuss future strategies and actions.
