BJP’s Kanad Purkayastha, AGP’s Birendra Prasad Baishya Win 2 Assam Rajya Sabha Seats Unopposed

With no other contenders entering the fray, Purkayastha and Baishya were elected unopposed.
BJP candidate Kanad Purkayastha and AGP leader Birendra Prasad Baishya have been elected unopposed in the two Rajya Sabha seats in Assam, as no opposition candidates filed nomination papers for the two seats.
June 9 was last day for filing nominations for the Rajya Sabha elections which was scheduled to be held on June 19, 2025. Besides Kanad Purkayastha and Birendra Prasad, no opposition leaders turned out to file nominations.
With no other contenders entering the fray, Purkayastha and Baishya were elected unopposed.
The election was necessitated as the terms of Mission Ranjan Das and Birendra Prasad Baishya are set to expire on June 14, 2025. While Baishya is being re-elected for another term, Purkayastha will be making his debut in the Upper House.
