BJP North Tripura President Kajal Das arrested for manhandling polling official, gets bail

Kajal Das, president of BJP’s North Tripura district was arrested after a video of him manhandling a polling official had surfaced.
Das was arrested by the Tripura Police yesterday after the video went viral on social media platforms showing him and a group of men allegedly assaulting a polling official during the recent electoral process in the state.
In the viral video, Das and others can be seen repeatedly assaulting the presiding officer at a polling station in Bagbasa constituency during the second phase of polling on April 26 in Bagbasa constituency.
Yesterday, based on reports from sector officers, micro observers, and the viral video, the Assistant Returning Officer of Dharmanagar lodged a complaint against Kajal Das and the unknown miscreants at the Kadamtala Police Station.
Following the complaint, a case was registered and Das was arrested, said Jayanta Debnath, Officer in-charge of Kadamtala Police Station.
Das was subsequently granted bail by a Dharmanagar Court.
An investigation into the case is underway, said police.
