BJP leader and Darjeeling MLA Niraj Zimba has strongly criticised the Citizen Action Party (CAP), labeling it the “Circus Action Party” in response to controversial statements made by CAP President Ganesh Kumar Rai.
During an interview with Northeast Live, Zimba addressed Rai’s comments about the potential merger of Sikkim and Darjeeling, calling the idea entirely impractical. Zimba described the unification proposal as a “marriage of a snake and a frog,” arguing that both regions have distinct socio-political identities, making any such union impossible.
Zimba also accused Ganesh Kumar Rai and the Citizen Action Party of spreading propaganda and misleading the public with false narratives. Rai had earlier claimed that Sikkim’s Chief Minister frequently visits Darjeeling with a “hidden agenda.” Zimba quickly countered this, clarifying that the Chief Minister’s visits are purely for social causes and have no connection to West Darjeeling’s politics.
The controversy erupted after Ganesh Rai’s recent comments, in which he criticised the ruling SKM government for failing to fulfill its 2019 election promises. Rai also accused the government of mishandling discussions around the possible unification of Sikkim and Darjeeling. According to Rai, the government is under the influence of Chief Economic Advisor.
