Talking to journalists in Nalbari on Saturday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that BJP will fight the BTC elections with its full might.

Dilip Saikia is himself an MP from BTR and he is actively looking the poll preparation and organizational activities.”

On being asked with what attitude BJP is moving ahead keeping in view Bodoland regional parties United Peoples’ Party Liberal (UPPL) and Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF), CM Sarma said that it will be a friendly contest. “There will be no seat sharing with UPPL and BPF, but we will have a friendly contest. There will be no fight and criticism of each other. Even if they request, that BJP shall not contest from any particular seat, we will not put up candidates there. We have best wishes for Hagrama Mohillary also as he helps us in Rajya Sabha Polls. So we will not conflict with the Bodo Regional parties. We will proceed on our way and with a friendly attitude with Bodo Regional parties.”

The election to the 40-member council is scheduled to be held later this year. The council is currently being governed by an alliance of BJP, United Peoples’ Party Liberal (UPPL) and Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) with UPPL president Pramod Boro as its Chief Executive Member (CEM). In 2020, UPPL had won 12 seats while BJP won nine, GSP had won 1 and 17 seats went to the pocket of Hagrama Mohilary’s Bodoland Peoples’ Front.
