BJP Announces Kanad Pukayastha as Assam’s RS Candidate

Kanad Pukayastha’s name was shortlisted from a list of 13 names
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday announced the name of Kanad Pukayastha as Assam’s Rajya Sabha candidate. Kanad Pukyastha is presently General Secretary of BJP Assam Unit.
He is the son of veteran BJP leader and former Union Minister Kabindra Pukyayastha.
Assam BJP had received 13 applications for the Assam Rajya Sabha seat that the party will be contesting. Of the two seats which are falling vacant as terms of two MPs are expiring this month, BJP is contesting in one seat and leaving the other for its ally AGP.
Kanad’s name was picked from the list that included names of former Union Minister and ex and present MPs. The applicants’ list was forwarded to BJP National President J.P. Nadda to finalise the candidate’s name.
Two Rajya Sabha seats from Assam will fall vacant on June 14 after the terms of AGP MP Birendra Prasad Baishya and BJP MP Mission Ranjan Das will end and elections for both the seats will be held on June 19.
