“It’s hard to choose,” Bill Gates admitted, reiterating that India is home to “so many incredible talents.”

Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates recently found himself in a dilemma when asked to name three Indians dead or alive, he would like to invite for dinner.

During a podcast interview with Raj Shamani on Figuring Out, Gates hesitated, chuckled, and admitted, “There are so many incredible talents.”

Struggling to narrow down his choices, he ended up naming 4 individuals instead of 3, each representing leadership, innovation, and sheer genius.

Gates, who has long admired India’s progress, carefully selected his dream dinner guests: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, legendary industrialist late Ratan Tata, eminent pediatrician and scientist late Maharaj Kishan Bhan, and one of history’s greatest mathematicians, late Srinivasa Ramanujan.

Reflecting on his choices, Gates shared his thoughts on each. He spoke about his interactions with the Indian leader, saying he values the opportunity to understand Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for India and how it aligns with long-term goals like Vision 2047.

Speaking about Maharaj Kishan Bhan, he said Bhan, a key figure in Indian biotechnology, Bhan played a crucial role in scientific advancements. He acknowledged his contributions to healthcare and innovation.

Gates expressed his fascination with the mathematical genius, calling his work “almost mysterious” and marveling at the brilliance Ramanujan brought to the field.

And, recognizing Ratan Tata’s legacy in business and philanthropy, Gates noted that he has had the privilege of working with him and other Indian innovators.

Gates further emphasised the incredible talent in India, mentioning how he frequently meets entrepreneurs both profit-driven and non-profit who are leveraging artificial intelligence in healthcare.

“It’s hard to choose,” Gates admitted, reiterating that India is home to “so many incredible talents.”

Beyond discussing his dream dinner guests, Gates also spoke about India’s entrepreneurship boom, global funding, scientific advancements, AI, the next pandemic, and the principles that have shaped his work ethic.
