Arrests made in November led to the arrest of 12 individuals from Nagaland, Manipur and Assam that helped Nagaland Police to bust the network

The Nagaland Police has busted one of the largest drug trafficking network spread across Nagaland, Manipur, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Punjab, Nagaland Director General of Police (DGP) Rupin Sharma said on Wednesday.

DGP Sharma said that an arrest made from Sechu Zubza on November 13 led to the arrest of 12 individuals thereby busting the network. “The accused is suspected to have trafficked around 60 Kgs of heroine worth about Rs 400 crore within a span of one year,” he said.
The 12 arrested persons are from Nagaland, Manipur and Assam.

Sharma said that the case is still under investigation and there is possibility of involvement of many other people in this network which shall be unearthed soon.

He said, Nagaland Police have made significant progress in terms of war against drugs and informed that 8 police personnel have been dismissed while 41 police personnel have been detained and departmental inquiry is still underway for their alleged involvement in drugs trade and abuse. He also said that 3 government servants of various departments have been arrested for their alleged involvement in selling, trafficking and consumption of drugs and their respective departments have been notified about the same.

Sharma also mentioned that Dimapur and Kohima districts are reported to have the highest number of drugs being sold, consumed and trafficked.

Since 1st January 2023 till date, a total of 318 cases have been registered and 456 persons have been arrested in connection with NDPS related activities, said Sharma.

Further, Sharma appealed to the public to extend a helping hand and be cautious because it is easy for the traffickers to befool people into carrying drugs or allowing other measures for facilitating traffickers.

Nagaland Police is committed for ensuring a drug free Nagaland in line with the efforts of Government of India towards ensuring Drug Free India by 2047, DGP Sharma said.
