The Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved two major hydropower projects in Arunachal Pradesh, with a combined investment of Rs 3,689 crore.
The two projects, the 186 MW Tato-I Hydro Electric Project and the 240 MW Heo Hydro Electric Project will be located in the Shi Yomi district of the state.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the CCEA had sanctioned Rs 1,750 crore for Tato-I and Rs 1,939 crore for Heo, aimed at enhancing power generation and improving the power supply in the region.
The energy produced from these projects will contribute to balancing the national power grid and meeting the growing electricity demands in the state.
These projects will be executed through joint ventures between the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NEEPCO) and the Arunachal Pradesh government.
The central government will provide budgetary support for infrastructure development, including roads, bridges, and transmission lines.
Specifically, Rs 77.37 crore will be allocated for enabling infrastructure in the Tato-I project, while Rs 127.28 crore will be earmarked for the Heo project.
The state will also benefit from 12% free power, along with 1% dedicated to the Local Area Development Fund (LADF).
Beyond the energy boost, these initiatives will drive socio-economic growth in the region, with Rs 15 crore earmarked for essential infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, vocational training institutes, and marketplaces. The projects are set to significantly improve the infrastructure and livelihoods of local communities, fostering long-term regional development.
