Basistha Dev Sarma, Burha Sattriya of Barpeta Satra passed away on Saturday evening after a prolonged illness at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital. 

The Satriya exponent who breathed his last at 4.56 pm was admitted at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital. 

Later late in the night, his mortal remains were taken to is residence at Sundaridiya in Barpeta. 

Public tributes are to be formally paid to the departed soul of the Burha Sattriya today. 

The mortal remains of the late Burha Sattriya are to be kept at the bus terminal of Nahati in Barpeta where people are expected to gather in large numbers to pay their last respect to the late Sattradhikar.

Today the mortal remains of the late Burha Sattriya will be taken out in a procession in Barpeta to the bus terminal where people would be able to pay their last respects for the day. 

The last rites of the Satriya exponent will be performed in Barpeta tomorrow.

Meanwhile, tributes have been pouring in for the departed soul of the late Burha Sattriya.

Basistha Dev Sarma’s demise has come as a major loss for Assam’s cultural society.

In 2017, the noted Sattriya exponent was selected for national level Srimanta Sankardev Award by Assam government.
