In what comes as an explosive remark, the banned pro-Khalistani outfit ‘Sikh For Justice’ or SFJ has openly stated that it supports the secession of Assam from India.

In an open letter addressed to ULFA-I Commander in Chief Paresh Baruah, SFJ leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun suggested that just like the global Khalistani Referendum that was launched by the SFJ for balkanization of India, ULFA-I should also follow suit and launch an independence referendum on whether Indian occupied Assam be an independent country.

In this regard, Pannun even said that the SFJ would be supporting the Assam Independence Referendum and provide all legal help and logistical guidance to the ULFA-I, help in the campaigning for the cause globally and provide legal support in presenting the case before the United Nations.

The latest response by the SFJ comes after the ULFA-Independent’s reaction to the threat issued by banned pro-Khalistani outfit to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

In an open letter to the Sikhs for Justice, the ULFA-Independent had stated that the alarm sent to the Assam CM over alleged torture of pro-Khalistan inmates lodged in Dibrugarh jail is unfortunate and misunderstood.

The ULFA-Independent release also stated that there is no room for the brutal torture of the 8 members of Waris Punjab De lodged in Dibrugarh jail and urged the Sikhs for Justice leaders to refrain from making such alarming remarks in future. The ULFA-Independent also pointed out that there is no culture of persecution in Assam and reminded the SFJ leaders that Sikhs were never victimised in the state even during the riots in parts of the country back in 1984.

It may be mentioned that authorities in Assam are already engaged in informal communications with ULFA-I Chief Paresh Baruah on the possibilities of a dialogue with the Government of India to resolve the ULFA issue.

Meanwhile, the security cover of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is already a Z-plus category protectee, has been further beefed up.The Special Task Force of the Assam Police as well as the central intelligence are analysing the numbers from where the calls and messages had been sent to journalists based in Assam and outside issuing a threat to the Assam CM over alleged ill-treatment of pro-Khalistan inmates lodged in Dibrugarh Central jail. In this regard, the Assam Police is also considering to take assistance of the Interpol in tracing the calls. Authorities are confident of thwarting any attempt by the pro-khalistani outfit to radicalise any person in the state.
