The operation led to the recovery of a factory-made pistol, cash in both Indian and Bangladeshi currencies, and other incriminating items.

In a major security operation ahead of Republic Day, Tripura Police arrested a Bangladeshi arms dealer from the Milanchakra Adarshapalli area of Agartala. The operation led to the recovery of a factory-made pistol, cash in both Indian and Bangladeshi currencies, and other incriminating items.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided a house owned by Nilkanta Deb on Tuesday evening. The house was being used as a hideout by the accused, identified as Samajpriya Chakma, a resident of the Khagrachari district in Bangladesh.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sadar, Deba Prasad Roy, confirmed the arrest and revealed the seized items, including a loaded 9mm pistol, Rs. 2,21,000 in Indian currency, 25,000 Bangladeshi Taka, and two smartphones.

“Preliminary interrogation and documents confirmed that the accused is a Bangladeshi national. An FIR has been lodged under the Arms Act and various sections of the Indian Penal Code. Further investigation is underway to determine his activities and networks,” SDPO Roy said.

The incident highlights the ongoing challenges of infiltration and arms smuggling in the border state of Tripura.

The arrest underscores a critical link between illegal infiltrators and arms rackets, raising serious concerns over national security.
