Assam’s Amulya Baruah, Creator of Iconic Rhino Logo, Passes Away in London at 75

Amulya Baruah, a legendary graphic designer from Assam, passed away at his residence in London on May 3. He was 75 years old. Known around the world for his creative brilliance, Baruah leaves behind a legacy that continues to inspire designers across the globe.
Born in Digboi, Assam, Amulya Baruah rose from humble beginnings to become a globally respected figure in the field of graphic design. He completed his graduation in Science from Cotton College, Guwahati, before moving to Mumbai to study Commercial Art at the prestigious Sir J.J. School of Art. During his time there, he designed the iconic single-horned rhino logo for Assam Tourism. The logo became a powerful symbol of Assam’s identity and one of his most remembered works.
In the late 1970s, Baruah moved to London and founded Plus One Design, a design firm that grew to earn great respect for its high-quality work and creativity. Under his leadership, the firm flourished and gained international recognition, showcasing Baruah’s passion, hard work, and talent.
He is survived by his wife and son, who recently got married. His passing marks the end of an era in the world of design, but his art and ideas will live on.
