Assam registers 22% drop in road accident fatalities in Jan-Apr, 2024 compared to same period in 2023

The state has seen a drop of 24.16% in January, 13.38 % in February, 24.21% in March and 24,63% in April this year compared to the same period in 2023.
The number of fatalities due to road accidents in Assam decreased by 22% between January and April of this year compared to the same period in 2023, said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
According to the data shared by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on X, due to efforts put in by the authorities concerned to prevent road accidents, the state has seen a drop of 24.16% in January, 13.38 % in February, 24.21% in March and 24,63% in April in deaths due to road accidents this year compared to the same period in 2023.
“Due to our relentless efforts to enforce road safety measures, fatalities due to road accidents have come down drastically and consistently in the recent past. There has been an overall decline of 22% in road accident fatalities from Jan-Apr ’23 to Jan-Apr ’24,” CM Sarma posted on X.
According to reports, between December 31, 2023, and January 1, 2024, the state reported a 9% drop in road accident-related calls as compared to the previous corresponding time.
The emergency response service responded to 312 accident-related calls across the state, including 116 on December 31, 2023 and 193 on January 1, 2024 as compared to 342 calls received by the emergency response service between December 31, 2022, and January 1, 2023.
