Police Rescue Three Trafficked Minor Girls: In a significant operation, Cachar police successfully rescued three minor girls who were trafficked and sold in Rajasthan. One accused has been arrested, while efforts are underway to capture two others involved in the crime.

Speaking to Northeast Live, SP Cachar, Numal Mahatta, revealed that the operation was launched following a complaint lodged by Bijit Karmakar, a resident of Gumrah. Bijit reported that his 15-year-old daughter, Sunali Karmakar, and her 15-year-old friend, Sumita Karmakar, were taken to an unknown location on January 5 under the pretext of being offered jobs. Rupali Dutta and Ganga Ganju reportedly took the girls, promising them employment opportunities.

Sumita managed to escape from her workplace and revealed upon reaching home that both girls were forced to prepare for marriage with unknown men. Based on this information, Kalain police registered a case. A breakthrough came when Sunali made a phone call from an unknown number, which was traced to Rajasthan by Cachar police.

Without delay, a special operations team of four members was sent to Jaipur (Rural). With the help of IPS Anand Sharma from the SP office in Jaipur and the Chandwaji Police Station staff, Sunali was located and rescued.

During the operation, another missing girl from Patharkandi in Sribhumi district, Assam Sanjita Sawtal approached the Assam police team.

Sanjita explained that she too had been trafficked under similar circumstances. Following this new development, SP Cachar immediately informed Assam DGP Harmeet Singh. Under his advice, both Sunali and Sanjita were flown back to Assam on March 7 with a transit remand of 24 hours.

One of the key accused, Leela Ram, who had married Sunali, was arrested and brought back to Silchar. Meanwhile, Rupali Dutta and Ganga Ganju remain absconding and are believed to be outside Assam. SP Numal Mahatta assured that the case will not be closed until all perpetrators and their agents, who are spread across Assam, are arrested.

Barak Cha Sramik Union, which had rallied for the rescue of the minors, expressed gratitude to SP Cachar, DGP Assam, and Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma for their swift action in saving the girls.
