Minister Kaushik Rai said the government is committed to complete the East-West Corridor by January 2026
Road connectivity between Silchar and Dima Hasao has been snapped following heavy rainfall, severely affecting transportation and daily travel. Responding swiftly, the Assam Cabinet has decided to carry out immediate repair work and ensured timely completion of the crucial East-West Corridor project by January 2026.
Assam Minister Kaushik Rai visited Dima Hasao on Wednesday and led a key review meeting with Hill District Council Chief Executive Member (CEM) Debolal Garlosa, the District Commissioner, and top officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the Public Works Department (PWD), and other related departments.
After the meeting, Minister Kaushik Rai, along with CEM Debolal Garlosa and senior officials, inspected the rain-hit road sections to assess ongoing repair and construction work. Minister Kaushik Rai said that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had directed them to take swift action to restore normal traffic movement in the coming days.
“We have asked all concerned departments to keep the roads usable for the next two to three days until full-scale repair work begins, so that commuters don’t face more trouble,” said Minister Kaushik Rai.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the East-West Corridor by January 2026. “This project will bring huge benefits to the people of Barak Valley and will also improve road connectivity for Mizoram and Manipur with Guwahati,” he added.
The East-West Corridor is one of Assam’s most important infrastructure projects. Once completed, it is expected to boost regional connectivity, ease travel, and create new opportunities for trade and economic growth across the state and neighbouring regions.
