Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong today informed that both the State Governments of Assam-Meghalaya will prepare a detailed report after assessment of the Regional Committee findings, which will be submitted to their respective Chief Ministers soon. Subsequent to this both Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma will have another sitting within 3-4 days following which they will be leaving for New Delhi.

During their visit to the national capital, both the chief ministers will brief Union Home minister Amit Shah on the final agreement.
Tynsong also lauded the two Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Himanta Biswa Sarma for their proactive role and initiative in resolving the long pending Assam-Meghalaya Border issue which he said that no other CMs have been able to achieve in the past.

A crucial Chief Minister level meet of both the states took place in Guwahati on January 12. This was the 4th meeting of the CMs on the issue which lasted for around 45 minutes. Chairpersons of all regional committees from Assam and Meghalaya were part of the meeting. Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and Home Minister Lakhmen Rymbui among others were present from the Meghalaya side. From Assam, ministers Atul Bora and Chandramohan Patowary besides others attended the meet.
It may be mentioned that of the 12 areas of differences Assam and Meghalaya are looking to resolve 6 areas of dispute in the first phase. It is being hoped that a final agreement will be reached in the majority of the 6 areas of dispute before January 21st when Meghalaya will celebrate its 50th Statehood Day.
