Assam: Historic Adivasi Accord signed with 8 outfits

HM Shah termed the accord as historic not only for the people of Assam but the Northeast as a whole.
History was created yesterday as the Centre and the Assam government signed a crucial Adivasi accord with as many as 8 Adivasi outfits of Assam.
The crucial accord was signed at the North Block in presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the leaders of the outfit and central representatives.
HM Shah termed the accord as historic not only for the people of Assam but the Northeast as a whole.
The accord paves way for 1182 cadres of the 8 outfits to join the mainstream. The historic Adivasi accord also promises to secure the political, cultural, and economic rights of the sizeable Adivasi population of Assam.
Among the Advasi outfits set to sign the accords are the Adivasi Cobra Military of Assam, Birsa Commando Force, Adivasi People’s army, All Assam Adivasi National Army, Santhal tiger force, and three breakaway groups.
Shah added that the accord will fulfil the political and economic aspirations of the Adivasi community of Assam. The accord will also secure the cultural and linguistic rights of the Adivasis, Shah said.
Meanwhile, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the Accord will greatly benefit the Adivasi community and will be implemented in letter and spirit.
