Assam: GSP to Contest BTC Polls in Alliance with BPF

First Published: 25th May, 2025 20:19 IST

Naba Kumar Sarania exuded confidence that the GSP-BPF alliance will win the upcoming council elections

In a significant political development in the Bodo heartland, the Gana Suraksha Party (GSP), led by former MP Naba Kumar Sarania today announced that the party will contest the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections in alliance with the Hagrama Mohilary-led Bodoland People’s Front (BPF).

The announcement marks a major shift in the political dynamics of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), especially amid the recent rise of the Alternative Party of Bodoland (APB).

Briefing the media, Naba Kumar Sarania exuded confidence that the GSP-BPF alliance will win the upcoming council elections. However, the leadership of both parties are in talks to finalize the seat-sharing plans.

The election to the 40-member council is expected to be an interesting battle since the BJP and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) leadership have already given substantial indications that both parties will contest the elections solo.

Earlier, Hagrama Mohilary firmly stated that BPF would secure an absolute majority, expecting to win more than 20 seats.

“We will contest the BTC election and win with an absolute majority. Out of the 40 seats, we will win at least 25,” he confidently stated.
