Assam Government Reaches Out to Families of Pahalgam Terror Attack Victims

Pahalgam Terror Victims: The disbursement of support began on Friday, with representatives of the Assam govt personally visiting the families

In a heartfelt gesture of solidarity and support, the Assam Government has begun handing over ex gratia to the families of those killed in the tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025. As per a decision taken earlier by the state cabinet, Rs 5 lakh each is being provided to the families of the 26 victims of the brutal incident.

The disbursement of support began on Friday, with representatives of the Assam government personally visiting the families of the deceased across various parts of the country.

One of the first families to receive the support is the Late N. Ramachandran from Ernakulam, Kerala. Kaushik Rai, Member of the Assam Legislative Assembly, gave the condolence letter and Rs 5 lakh aid to Sheela Ramachandran, the wife of the deceased. Their children, Arathi and Aravind Ramachandran expressed deep gratitude for the state’s gesture, acknowledging the moral and emotional support it brought during such a difficult time.

Sharing the moment on social media platform X, Rai wrote:

“Today, on his behalf, I had the honour of handing over the condolence letter along with the financial aid to Smt. Sheela Ramachandran Ji, wife of the late Shri N. Ramachandran… We stand united in remembering the brave souls and in supporting their families.”

Minister Prasanta Phukan visited the family of J.S. Chandramouli, a native of Visakhapatnam who also lost his life in the attack. He extended condolences and reiterated the government’s commitment to standing with the victims’ families.

In another heartfelt visit, Minister Nandita Garlosa met the family of Arunachal’s Lt. Corporal Tage Hailyang, who was martyred in the Pahalgam attack. She delivered the CM’s message and handed over the Rs 5 lakh cheque in the presence of local village elders and Padmapani Bora, Commissioner of the Tourism Department.

A resident of Ziro in Lower Subansiri district, Tage Hailyang had been serving in the Indian Air Force with dedication and pride. He was among the 26 people killed in the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. At the time of the attack, Corporal Hailyang had been holidaying with his wife.

In another heartfelt gesture, Minister Keshab Mahanta also visited the home of Navy Officer Late Vinay Narwal to deliver financial support and express solidarity on behalf of the people of Assam.

Taking to X, CM Sarma wrote, “A month has passed since the tragic Pahalgam massacre, but the victims will always remain in our hearts and their families in our prayers.”

The Pahalgam terror attack occurred on April 22, 2025, in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam region. A group of terrorists ambushed a convoy transporting military and civilian personnel, resulting in the deaths of 26 people, including several soldiers and civilians. The attack was widely condemned across the country.

Meanwhile, state governments like Assam have stepped forward to extend support to the grieving families.
