He added that a certain section of people invent such made up stories to gain cheap popularity in social media

Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu on Friday rubbished reports of a leak of English language question paper on day one of the HSLC or Class X exams that began today and termed the reports as fake and false. He urged people to be aware of such fake news and assured strict action against those involved in spreading fake news.

“There were reports in certain sections of media that question papers were leaked on the first day of the Matric exam in Cachar. Police have informed me that such reports are completely false. Police have found no such evidence while frisking the students after the examination. I urge people to be aware of such false news,” Minister Pegu said.

He added that a certain section of people invent such made up stories to gain cheap popularity in social media.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also warned against the spread of such false news. Taking to his official X handle, the CM wrote, “One should remain alert. We must not believe rumors and fake news so that misinformation is avoided.”

Cachar’s Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta also denied reports of the question paper leak.

“We have thoroughly investigated the matter and have frisked every student who gave their exam in the concerned school. We have also searched mobile phones of teachers and officials involved in conducting the exam. After all this it has come to light that there has been no question paper leakage,” he said.

He added that such an incident was also reported last year and that investigation is ongoing to find the truth about the start of the rumour.

Reports were circulating that the English paper of the ongoing HSLC exam was leaked in Assam’s Cachar district after 30 minutes of the starting of the exam.
