Assam Doctor Survives Deadly AI171 Crash in Ahmedabad, Mom Narrates How Son Narrowly Escaped Death

Assam Doctor: Dr. Gogoi who is pursuing DM (Doctorate of Medicine) course at the BJ Medical College and Hospital had a narrow escape.

It was just a matter of few minutes that saved Dr. Bidyut Bikash Gogoi, a young doctor from Sivasagar, Assam, who was at the hostel of BJ Medical College, Ahmedabad when the London-bound Air India flight AI-171 crashed into the hostel within minutes of takeoff from the Sardar Ballabhbhai Patel international Airport in Ahmedabad.

Dr. Gogoi who is pursuing DM (Doctorate of Medicine) course at the BJ Medical College and Hospital had a narrow escape. He was inside the hostel when the monstrous nose of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner came crashing and got lodged in the mess of the hostel killing 5 resident doctors including the pregnant wife of a doctor and injuring several others.

Bidyut’s mother while speaking to the reporter said, “He heard a loud sound and saw smoke everywhere. He ran out of the hostel and somehow escaped. Though he suffered minor injuries, he is now in stable condition. He is safe, and that’s what matters.”

The devastating crash occurred on June 12 at around 1:38 PM. The crash claimed the lives of all its crew members and passengers baring just one man who walked out of the crash with minor injuries.

Among the deceased were two bright young women from Manipur Lamnumthem Singson and Nganthoi Kongbrailatpam Sharma who served as cabin crew members. Their loss, along with that of countless others, has left people across India in shock and in mourning.
