Assam DGP revealed that in the past one and a half months, four serving Assam Police personnel have died while on duty under various circumstances
Concerned about the recent deaths of Assam police personnel while on duty, DGP GP Singh has ordered an inquiry into such deaths so that necessary steps can be taken to prevent such tragedies.
“I have given instructions to enquire about such deaths because we need to know the reason for the deaths and what intervention it needs from our side,” GP Singh said.
He revealed that in the past one and a half months, four Assam Police personnel have died while on duty under various circumstances.
Mentioning the death of police constable Kukil Dutta who died during the Independence Day parade rehearsals at the Khanapara ground, DGP Singh said that a complete blood profile was done for Kukil earlier this month, and a CT scan was done on August 8, but no abnormality was found.
“He had a headache, after which he was not allowed to come to the parade, he was asked to sit.” GP Singh said.
Kukil Dutta (20) who was a part of the Assam Police Radio Organization (APRO) working as a constable in Tezpur, had come to Guwahati for the parade. But he fell ill during the proceedings and was immediately taken to GMCH for medical attention.
According to report, the constable had been grappling with severe headaches for the past five days. His condition took a tragic turn during the rehearsals.
The Assam Police has started a massive fitness drive and BMI (Body Mass Index) tests are being carried out at 35 centres in 29 districts. Each day 12,500 Assam police personnel are taking the test. Every hour 350 police personnel are taking the fitness test. A total of 67,000 Assam police personnel are taking the test.
