The Congress is a divided lot over abrogation of Article 370 and it is now confirmed that Congress’ chief whip Bhubaneswar Kalita resigned from Rajya Sabha membership on Monday over his opposition to the party’s stand on Article 370.
In a letter, Bhubaneshwar Kalita said that the present scenario within the Congress party is worrisome.
Opposing the party’s opposition to the abrogation of Article 370, Kalita said, “My conscience does not allow me to be a part of such negative developments and still continue in the Congress party.”
Kalita further highlighted that many within the Congress are disillusioned with the leaderless state of the party. The Congress party is on a path of self destruction, Bhubaneshwar Kalita said.
Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu has accepted Kalita’s resignation. Kalita’s term was set to expire on April 2020.
